NextGen DNA Sequencing for understanding Culture Diversity

Turnaround time: 4-6 weeks from when the sample is received

$549 per sample – Diversity Assay Bacteria and Yeast – Identifies types and percentages present

Bacteria Quantification – total number of bacteria present by type – Add $325

Yeast Quantification – total number of yeast present by type – Add $325

The assay will tell you how much in proportion to the entire sample are present of a particular bacterium or yeast strain, however, it won’t indicate the number of CFUs (individual bacteria or yeast cells) present. So for instance, you may know that 25% is bacteria x & 0.5% of bacteria y but that won’t tell you “xBillion organisms present at bottling.”

The quantifications will allow you to potentially put that information on your label, if that’s important to the brand. If not, then you can pass on that for now and they can be done at a later date. It may take another 4-6 weeks from the request to get the counts – so it all depends on what you need and when you need it.
